You think you're a king but the Ace is back

Dear poker players, railbirds, and those who don’t believe in drawing dead...

Each week, we relive a hand that leaves an impression, one that makes our hearts skip a beat, and this week’s choice truly stood out.
Hand of the Week!

Enter Ace. A newcomer, fresh to our table but bursting with the energy of a seasoned pro. Just the kind of audacity I love! And in a setting where names often define fates, Ace was ready to carve his legacy....

In the ever-thrilling 7-2 bounty game we cherish, the stakes were never higher. For the uninitiated, it means winning with the most underwhelming cards in poker makes others pay the piper. This week, it's a cool $200 from each player. But fold last, and you're dishing out an extra $400. Because why not add salt to the wound?

Dive into the hand:

The stakes are set. $25/$50 NL with a $100 big blind ante. Shawn, with the confidence of a player who's been around, and a regular face on Table 1, raises preflop to $200. But wait, Ace isn’t here just to spectate. From the small blind, he fires back with $800. It's a dance, and Shawn's letting Ace take the lead, calling the raise in position.

The flop: 9-3-3 rainbow. Innocent? Maybe. But not for our players. Ace throws in $700. Shawn, ever the competitor, raises to $2,100. But Ace? He's not playing by the book. He makes it a jaw-dropping $6,000! Shawn, either feeling the heat or smelling a rat, takes the bait.

With the turn revealing an offsuit ten, both players halt their aggression. A momentary ceasefire, checking their moves. The river, a 5, and Ace goes all-in, shoving for $12,000! Shawn, perhaps sensing his doom or maybe just outplayed, lets it go.

And then, the big reveal. Ace flips over a 7-2 offsuit. The table gasps! Not only does he sweep up the pot, but the 7-2 bounty too. The audacity, the pure unfiltered guts!

We all turned to Shawn to see his reaction, but like a puff of smoke he was just gone. His chair was empty, his chips were missing, and if there wasn’t a door out of the poker room there would be a Shawn-shaped hole in the wall like in the cartoons.

Why did this hand get my vote? Because it's a testament to our wild rides at the table. A group of mavericks not afraid to make the big plays, defying norms, and pushing boundaries. And Ace? He just set a bar. A high one at that.

Curious to see how you'd fare in such a thrilling scenario? Looking to throw down some unforgettable hands of your own?

Until next time!

Cheers,

Art and Justin
