HOTW- Shocking runout! 4 way all in, $50k pot

Dear friends, fans, and people who hate reading,

If you’re new here, every week we talk about one hand that sticks in our minds. It can be a crazy all in, a courageous bluff, or just something that leaves us laughing our asses off. We call it the Hand of the Week!

This week’s hand is special because...

  • It’s a $50k+ pot!

  • It’s a NL Hold’em bomb pot

  • It’s a 4 way all in!

Now that I have your attention, let me tell you how we handle the rake on Table 1. When the dealer change happens (every 30 minutes), the house takes a time rake of $200 and we pre-tip the dealer $50. In order to make this happen we make a bigger pot so it doesn’t sting so badly. We do what’s called a bomb pot. If you’re unfamiliar, every player puts $200 into the pot and we go straight to the flop with no pre-flop action. And in our game, whoever is in the small blind position gets to choose what type of bomb pot we play.

The bomb pot can be anything from single board No Limit Hold’em with normal betting (we call this one “Missionary” 😉. Boring, to the point, but gets the job done.) all the way to Double Board 5 Card Omaha with half-pot betting on the flop with no re-raising and no turn betting, and full pot betting on the river. Confusing I know. We call that betting structure the Optimist (half-full 😂).

In this particular hand, the small blind player chose missionary (no limit holdem).

Anyways on to the hand:

We're trying something new this week. We were filming the podcast and I mentioned to Justin that we hadn’t had a HOTW in a while. So he told me a hand and I edited in some graphics to help tell the story.

See you next week for another Hand of the Week!

And if you haven’t checked out the Table 1 Podcast yet, here’s our first episode where Justin details how he lost his bankroll to Dan Bilzerian. We also tell our stories of how we got into poker and moved to Las Vegas.

Cheers,

Art and Justin
