Every week we talk about one hand that made us say wow. This week we had a lot to choose from, but one hand was special.
Hand of the Week!

This week's hand is a doozy. And I don’t throw that word around lightly. Doozies carry some weight. We get to see:

  • A $55k pot at $25/$50 NL

  • What a good vacation can do to a man

  • Some pure gamble from one of the hosts of the game (you’re gonna love this).

With your gambling antennae all perked up, let’s get to it. You might remember Shawn D from last week’s HOTW. What can I say, he plays a lot of big pots. But let me introduce the unfamiliar to Justin Young. Actually, scratch that. The hand can do the talking.

The Hand:

We're playing $25/$50 with $100 big blind ante this week. There is a straddle on to $100 for this hand. Justin’s first to act and raises to $300. 2 players call the bet and Shawn D raises it up in the small blind with A♣️A♠️ to $1,700. Here’s where it gets interesting.

The straddle decides to juice up the pot to $4,300. Justin is sitting about $25k deep. The straddler and Shawn D both have $40k in front of them. Justin calls the $4,300.

Shawn double checks his hole cards. Yep, still pocket aces. He shoves all in for $40k! No slow playing here. The straddler gets out of the way and Justin starts to weigh his options. The pot is $13k and he’s got to call $21k more.

After a little bit of thought he says “Alright. Gold, I call. White, I fold.” I know exactly what he means, but the table looks confused.

Justin rises from his seat. He pulls out his M Life Players card. One side is gold, the other is white. He flings it high into the air. His fate tied to a piece of plastic tumbling down to the felt. It’s gold. Call.

His hand? 6♥️5♥️. They run it twice but the board gives no life to Justin and Shawn rakes in the massive pot.

“Where do you find these people? He’s not even ahead of 7♣️2♥️!” my neighbor asks. “Oh him? He’s just been on vacation for a week. He hosts the game with me.” 🤑

That feeling when your players card makes you do something and it doesn’t work out
